Qualicum Beach - Milner House Gardens

So, you’ve got some time planned for a summer getaway and you want to stay close within the province. But, where to go and what to do could be the deal breakers.

Here are some fabulous ideas for couples to families, and everyone in between.  Gems garnered from my recent radio show with the Tourism Association of Vancouver Island and their partners including Inn on Long Lake, the Historic Inns of Victoria, Golf Vancouver Island and the Filberg Festival with Old Village House in the Comox Valley, will provide some enticing ideas sure to please the whole gang!

Golf Vancover Island Association's Partner, Fairwinds GolfFor those of us fortunate enough to call the west coast of Canada home, it’s always fun to brag about the ‘greens’ and what we shot today!  Even in December…where the loudest yells come from Vancouver Island.  For complete details of the incredibly scenic courses, as well as fabulous packages for Gal Pals and Boys Only, to couples seeking dynamic golf followed by relaxing spa therapies, visit Golf Vancouver Island.

Celebrating 29 years, and the respected title of Western Canada’s largest juried outdoor arts show; the Filberg Festival takes place in the spectacular Comox Valley annually over the BC Day Long Weekend.  Amongst an incredible visual feast of gardens and towering trees, at the site of the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Fiblerg Festival 2011Park, over 130 artisans and makers of fine art in a variety of media will showcase their works against this stunning backdrop.  This year’s Guest Artist, Coral May Barclay, will be in attendance as she shares her world-renowned pieces depicting northwest coastal landscape.

The Comox First Nations Band is hosting its I-HOS Art Festival on July 28, 2011 at the K’omoks First Nations Grounds from 11:45am to 4:00p.  A vibrant celebration of First Nations dancers, potlatch and a drum-making workshop provide a rare and special invitation to join the K’omoks people in their Big House.

Farmers' Markets are fresh and vibrant on Vancouver IslandShould your travels find you spending several days in this majestic region of the Comox Valley, visit the 53rd Annual Comox Nautical Days taking place from July 30 to August 1, 2011.  Complete with a parade and fireworks, this celebration of land and sea is sure to please the entire family!

Speaking of family entertainment, look no further than the sand spectacle of Parksville’s Beach Festival running from July 16 to August 14 this year.

There’s nothing like a good night’s sleep when travelling and it seems it’s never better than when you’re on vacation!  Here’s a run-down of some very special properties, each with stellar reputations at tripadvisors.com.

Historic Inns of Victoria - Abbeymoor Manor Guest SuiteHistoric Inns of Victoria ~ A collection of seven unique ‘inns’ located throughout the city of Victoria, each offers a delectable experience within magnificently restored heritage mansions.  No lace doilies, or the scent of Grandma’s lavender, these gorgeous properties offer the amenities of upscale hotels, but in a more relaxed yet elegant environment.   As spokesperson Ian MacPhee shares “We know our guests even before they arrive, ensuring we are able to look after whatever they may need. From allergies to special dietary requests, we are here to take care of them.”  Yes, these properties offer a unique escape for the modern traveler, offering intimacy in a professional manner.

Old House Village Hotel & Spa ~ Craving the amenities of a posh hotel, with the convenience of a kitchen and living room, this Comox Valley property fits the Comox Valley's Old Village House Pool Deckbill to a ‘t’!  The spa (Oh Spa!) is a serene getaway within itself, and the outdoor pool with hot tub is a welcome respite at the end of long day of touring.  Crawl in between the sheets and prepare to fall blissfully fast asleep amidst the peace and quiet, all included.  And, the gardens at this time of year are simply beautiful.

Inn on Long Lake ~ What a pleasant find this gem of a property is for those of you visiting in and around Nanaimo.  Only 20 years old and keeping pace with the tastes of today’s savvy travelers, every single one of the Inn’s well-appointed guestrooms or suites overlooks Long Lake.  Enjoy a ‘cuppa tea’ on the sprawling lawn, or sit back on your deck and watch the birds fly past.  Peaceful and inviting, warm hospitality reigns supreme here.
